A recent discussion on the Pezheads E-mail List made me think a short discussion on different copyrights was in order. These are fun little things to look for on your dispensers. They are definitely Variations as it means there were two different molds being used, and sometimes more. The problem with these is that they are so small, pictures are probably not possible. Yeah, I know. It's like reading a book without pictures. What a wrench :)
The first one is the common Witch dispenser, the one discontinued in 2002. She can be found with no copyright and also with © PEZ 1971. It will be located on *her* left side on the hair. I don't believe this version was around back then, but whatever. Thanks to Ryan for discovering this!
Santa and Lamb
Lamb w/feet, no pupil, 4.9, Slovenia -- with and without
on back of head.
Santa with feet, open eyes, 4.9 Slovenia -- with and without
copyright on back of head.
The copyright on the Lamb is © 1979 PEZ, and the Santa is © 1980 PEZ. Thanks go to Lynn for finding these!
This one gets a bit tricky. Casper can have quite the assortment of copyrights. The first is no copyright. it will just have a molding circle on the back of the head. The next will have that circle and a big © above it. Another will have no mold circle but instead will have a small © with "HFC" either on top of the © or below it. That gives us two different ones as the HFC can come right side up or upside down.
This one gets even more confusing so I'm going to use the words of its discoverer, Chris:
Here is my list of Charlie Browns
In each case, the name is in all caps is followed by @1950, 1966 United
Features Syndicate. Inc. on each.
CB with tongue, CHARLY BROWN on bill of cap and on his right cheek (left
side as you look at him), 3.9 Austria 3
CB with tongue, nothing on bill of cap, CHARLY BROWN on right cheek, 3.9
Austria 3 (but the smaller font 3).
CB frown, CHARLIE BROWN on bill of cap, nothing on right cheek, 3.9
CB frown, nothing on bill of cap, CHARLY BROWN on right cheek, 3.9
Austria 3 (also the smaller font 3).
CB smile, CHARLIE BROWN on bill of cap, nothing on right cheek, 3.9
You gotta love the way they spelled Charlie, Charly. Also, something to note, the copyright located on the cheek can sometimes be extremely small. I mean reeeeal teensy-tiny, so look close.
